Do you wonder how to quit your job and travel the world?

It does sound amazing, doesn’t it? Put all obligations aside for a while, get lost somewhere in jungles, wild beaches, or romantic cities, and just be for once.

One way of making this dream a reality is to save up money, sell your stuff, and run off to new adventures.

That’s at least what you expected to read, no?

But if you knew how most people say they do it, why haven’t you done it yet yourself?

You have to admit, it sounds pretty easy in theory. You write your resignation letter, hand it in to your boss, pack up your stuff, get some cheesy goodbye presents, and close the door behind you.

Let me guess.

You haven’t quit your job and gone travel on your savings because you know that this is not the right way to make your dream come true.

And honestly, why would you be?

Think about it. It’s absolute MADNESS!

Actually, we know a couple that did exactly that. They quit their jobs, sold their stuff, and all that romantic sounding jazz. They went traveling, and you know what? 1 month in, they decided to turn around and come back home!

Why? Because they couldn’t handle seeing their money being drained out of their pockets. They didn’t have a longterm plan and they started freaking out once money started to get tight. And trust me, it will get tight sooner or later!

I know, I know, this sounds crazy but just roll with me for a moment. You will very soon understand what I mean.

Oh and no, there is no secret hook, and it’s easier than you think it is.

Let us start by telling you a short story about us and how we have been traveling the world for the past 1.5 years without having to work and without touching our savings.

How we travel the world without working and without touching our savings

Our story starts on a sunny spring afternoon 5 years ago. It was Sunday and Tomer and I were strolling along the beautiful canals of Amsterdam when the pre-Monday blues started to settle in. Sounds familiar?

We had been dreaming about going traveling for a long time but I had just received a juicy promotion and it didn’t seem like the right time to leave.

I remember we got into an argument because Tomer said that if we didn’t go traveling within the next 2 years, it’s likely that we’ll never do it.

At that time we used to live in a rented apartment that cost us $1600 a month. Our landlord rented it out because he was traveling around South America.

We found this fact so fascinating that we started looking into mortgage prices to figure out how much profit our landlord was making on us. We learnt that if we bought an apartment ourselves, our monthly total cost would be $1000. That’s $600 less than what we were renting our apartment for! That means that our landlord had an additional $600 for his travel budget coming out of our bank account, every month.

Learning this was a game changer for us.

Over the course of the next 2 years we bought 3 apartments and gave them up for rent. You can do the math how much that makes us.

Our apartments are now the primary source for sponsoring our travels. Apart from some small administrative tasks of maybe 2 hours a month, we don’t need to work for this income.

This type of income is called passive income.

Passive income is any earnings that you make without having to actively work for. In simple words, it’s money that you earn while you sleep.

The secret: Find ways to make money “while you sleep”

If you read this story and think “Ok, that sounds good, but I don’t know anything about real estate and on top of that, I could never afford an apartment..”, let me calm you down.

We didn’t have any prior experience in the real estate market before we decided to learn. And, real estate is not your only option. In fact, there are many more. We wrote a post about the 11 best passive income streams that we see great potential in.

Passive income is the secret for how to quit your job and travel the world without worrying about money.

Instead of watching your savings running out and stressing about finding a job (or any job!) to make money flow back in, passive income will give you peace of mind during your travels and a financial cushion for a softer landing when you come back.

More importantly, it is your ticket to a life of financial freedom, in which you can do what you want, when you want, where you want. Always!

Wouldn’t it be amazing to live a lifestyle in which you are free to do whatever you want, without being chained to your office desk from 9 to 5?

Probably you’re thinking now that you don’t need to be chained to your office desk. You know that people make an income online while working remotely.

So why should you choose to learn about passive income instead of just finding a remote job?

You have a point, but only partially.

What about remote work? Yes and no!

During our travels, we have met many digital nomads that say that they chose the remote lifestyle to create more freedom for themselves.

If you ask me, in most cases the only freedom that they created is to be able to do exactly the same thing they used to do with one difference: They do it on the other side of the world.

Don’t get me wrong, working from a cute cafe in Colombia sipping on the best coffee in the world, or while sitting in the shade of a palm tree, is great! However, take a look at the co-working spaces. There you find digital nomads sitting from 9 to 5 in air conditioned offices, working the same way they used to. Only with an additional portion of FOMO because they’re not able to fully enjoy the location they are currently in! In our blog 9 uncensored truths of the digital nomad life we share more of the common misconceptions of what it really means to be a digital nomad.

I’m not saying I’m against working in general. Quite the opposite!

Work is important to keep our brains going and it gives us a sense of purpose.

But wouldn’t it be great if you could reduce the time that you have to work and only work when you feel like working? Or on projects that are meaningful to you?

Why do you want to go traveling in the first place? Because you want freedom!

Creating passive income will help you make freedom your new daily reality.

Here is how.

No, it’s not going to take you a million years.

Before we move on to the how, let me just clear this one out. Creating financial freedom doesn’t have to be a matter of many years.

You need to understand that financial freedom is not about being rich. Financial freedom means being able to sustain your personal lifestyle without having to work.

So now you see that how long it will take you to become financially free, depends on your lifestyle and the passive income streams you choose.

For example, if you plan to travel South East Asia, you can easily survive on $800 a month. If you want to become financially free in California, you will need significantly more. Hence, to create passive income to travel in South East Asia will probably take you a fraction of the time to reach financial freedom in California.

Yes, creating passive income will take you some time. However, so does the traditional way of saving. So, wouldn’t it be better to use the time for creating a source of income that will be there for the long run instead of having a savings fund that will shrink by the day?

The point is that even if you don’t create passive income immediately, you should aim for it.

This is where we finally get to the question you have been asking for a while now:

How can you get started to create passive income and financial freedom for yourself?

How to get started: Learn to think and act like the financially free

You will be happy to hear that most people who became financially free (including ourselves) didn’t have any background in finances or investments. Why?

Because reaching financial freedom is mostly about creating a certain mindset.

You need to learn to think and act as the financially free, and then apply this mindset and techniques for your situation.

This is what we’ll help you do!
