Sharing is caring!

We spent three days in the Cameron Highlands exploring the forests and tea plantations in the area! You can read the guide on the best ways to explore the Cameron Highlands here. Here are some last tips for visiting the Cameron Highlands or Tana Rata in particular to make sure you have a good time and avoid some tourist traps.

Try the Malaysian food places in Tana Rata

They are on the side of the bus station and definitely some of the tastiest and cheapest dishes we had during our stay there. They are mostly populated by locals and less aggressively approaching tourists, therefore somewhat less jumping into your eyes.

Strawberry farms are not spectacular

Strawberry farms are one of the main attractions in the Highlands. However, we couldn’t fully figure out if the farms were a genuine farming industry or if they were more a tourist attraction. Having grown up with strawberry fields around, the Cameron strawberry farms did not impress us very much. However, we couldn’t fully figure out if the farms were a genuine farming industry or if they were more a tourist attraction. Avoid the bee farms

We visited one of the farms and were shocked by the poor way the bees were kept as commercial tourist attraction. The honey those farms were selling was imported from China, hence it was not clear to us how the bee farms came about to exist and why they are still there.
