We arrived in Phuket on Sunday (25 Nov 2018), after a 2 h ferry ride from Koh Phi Phi. There were two reasons why we decided to visit Phuket. One, it has an airport and bus connections to Bangkok. And two, it is one of the most known places in Thailand and we were curious to see why.

We based ourselves for the first night in Phuket Old Town. One shocking moment was when we found out about the taxi prices! We took a cab from the pier to our accommodation and spent 400 TBH for a 7 minutes ride. We spent only 350 BTH p.p. on the 2 h ferry!!!! Crazy… ok, first big fat tourist trap. We were pretty upset, especially after we heard that there was a local bus running that route for only a tenth of the price ?

A fact we learnt about Phuket is that it has Chinese and European (especially Portuguese) influence. You can see this in the infrastructure of the buildings, which have Chinese as well as Portuguese elements such as those typical mosaic tiles and colorful paint.

Unknowingly we were really lucky because there is a night market taking place every Sunday in Phuket Town. We absolutely love discovering new food, so for us an entire long street of food stalls is like candy land! And this one was very special as it had also handicrafts, artists, musicians, and a street hairdresser! Tomer immediately had to try and got a haircut. The last couple of times back in Amsterdam I was his personal barber (one of my hidden talents ?) and I can say I’m quite satisfied with my successor.
